If you would like to discover a little of the history of Guanacaste during your Costa Rica vacation, the Santa Rosa National Park & Liberia City Tour is ideal for you.
The Santa Rosa National Park is the most important monument both for the protection of our dry forest and in relation to the freedom and independence of Costa Rica. Discover “La Casona”, where the Costa Rican army compound held by humble countrymen defeated a group of filibusters who had tried to conquer the entire Central American territory in 1856.
You will also walk thru the dry forest that contains 2% of the worldwide biodiversity all on just one trail – keep your eyes open for monkeys, birds, deer and much more. After the hike, you will take a short ride to Liberia City, where you can walk through its downtown and have a glimpse of what was the white city.
Historically, Liberia was called “La Ciudad Blanca”, or The White City, because of its array of white adobe houses, white dirt roads and often its people who dressed all in white to reduce the effects of the heat. You will have the opportunity to shop, buy some souvenirs and visit some of the city’s historic places.
